A company of the former peoples 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 "We are ruined, 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
