The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
