Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
