A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Mim Sad. 1 This Book has been sent down to you; so do not hesitate to warn (the unbelievers) through it, and remind the faithful. 2 Follow what has been revealed to you from your Lord and do not follow guardians besides Him, how little do you mind. 3 And a great number of towns (their population) We destroyed (for their crimes). Our torment came upon them (suddenly) by night or while they were sleeping for their afternoon rest. 4 No cry did they utter when Our Torment came upon them but this: "Verily, we were Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.)". 5 Then verily We shall question those unto whom (Our message) hath been sent, and verily We shall question the messengers. 6 With knowledge We will narrate to them, for We are never absent. 7 Truth alone will be of weight that Day. Those whose scales are heavy shall be successful, 8 Those whose scale will be light, will be their souls in perdition, for that they wrongfully treated Our signs. 9 And certainly We have established you in the earth and made in it means of livelihood for you; little it is that you give thanks. 10
