Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Kaf. Ha'. Ya'. Ayn. Sad. 1 This is an account of your Lord's mercy bestowed upon His servant Zachariah, 2 when he called upon his Lord in low tones, saying, 3 He said: "Lord! My bones have grown feeble and my head is glistening with age; yet, never have my prayers to You, my Lord, been unfruitful. 4 "And Verily! I fear my relatives after me, since my wife is barren. So give me from Yourself an heir, 5 who will be my heir and an heir to the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, satisfied' 6 "O Zachariah," (it was) said, "We give you good news of a son by name of John.' To none have We attributed the name before." 7 He said, "Lord, how can I have a son? My wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age". 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 [Zechariah] said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights, [being] sound." 10 Thereupon he came out of the sanctuary unto his people and signified to them [by gestures]: "Extol His limitless glory by day and by night!" 11 [And when the son was born and grew up, he was told,] "O John! Hold fast unto the divine writ with [all thy] strength!" - for We granted him wisdom while he was yet a little boy, 12 And compassion from Our presence, and purity; and he was devout, 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant. 14 And Peace be unto him the day he was born and the day he dieth and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
