The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
THE HOUR HAS come and split is the moon. 1 Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, "This is just a powerful magic". 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing. 6 they will come out of their graves, their eyes cast down, hastening towards their Summoner as locusts rushing about. 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 so he cried out to his Lord, saying, "I am overcome, so help me!" 10 Then We opened the portals of heaven with water poured out. 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 And We bore him upon a well-planked vessel well-caulked 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 And We left it as a sign. Is there anyone who will be warned? 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune, 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 But We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 22
