۞ The Inevitable Hour! 1 What is the Inevitable Hour? 2 And what would make you realize what the sure calamity is! 3 The tribes of Thamud and 'Aad belied the Striking Day. 4 So as for Thamud, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast]. 5 And as for 'Aad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind 6 which God let loose against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you could have seen its people lying prostrate as though they were the hollow trunks of palm-trees which had fallen down. 7 Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them? 8 Similarly, Pharaoh, and those before him, and the ruined villages, sinned 9 And they disobeyed the Apostle of their Lord, so He punished them with a vehement punishment. 10 Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried your ancestors in the sailing ship 11 so that We might make it a reminder for you and so that attentive ears might retain it. 12 Then, when one blast is sounded on the Trumpet, 13 And the earth and the mountains are borne away and crushed with a single crushing. 14 On that Day will come what is to come. 15 And the heaven shall cleave asunder, so that on that day it shall be frail, 16 And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them]. 17 On that day you shall be exposed, not one secret of yours concealed. 18 Then, he who is given his book in his right hand will say: 'Here, take and read my book! 19 Surely I knew that I shall meet my account. 20 Then he shall be in a life well-pleasing 21 In a lofty Paradise, 22 with clusters of fruit within easy reach. 23 “Eat and drink with pleasure – the reward of what you sent ahead, in the past days.” 24 However, those who will receive the books of the records of their deeds in their left hands will say, "We wish that this record had never been given to us 25 Nor that I knew my reckoning! 26 Oh, would that it had been death! 27 My wealth has not helped me a thing 28 "My power has perished from me!"... 29 'Take him, and fetter him, 30 “Then hurl him into the blazing fire.” 31 Then thrust him into a chain the length of which is seventy cubits. 32 "This was he that would not believe in Allah Most High. 33 and did not feel any urge to feed the needy: 34 and so, no friend has here today, 35 and the only food he has is filth 36 “Which none except the guilty shall eat.” 37
