He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 you attend to him, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And hath fear, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
