The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By heaven and the night-star! 1 How will you comprehend what the night star is? 2 The very brightly shining star! 3 Over every soul there is a watcher. 4 Let the human reflect of what he is created. 5 He was created of a gushing fluid, 6 Proceeding from between the back-bone and the ribs, 7 Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)! 8 On the Day when man's deepest secrets shall be put to the test 9 he will have no power, nor anyone to help him. 10 By the heaven with its recurring cycle of rain, 11 And the earth which opens up (with verdure), 12 Indeed, the Qur'an is a decisive statement, 13 It is not a thing for amusement. 14 They (disbelievers) plot every evil plan, 15 and I am cunningly devising. 16 so bear with those who deny the truth, and let them be for a little while. 17
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
