The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 but We see it near. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 [As a rule,] whenever misfortune touches him, he is filled with self-pity; 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 Are free of blame, 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35

Notes and Instructions
قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
