The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise, and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked round; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
