Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
