The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
