Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
