The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the heaven is split asunder, 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 O man, indeed you have to surely run towards your Lord, and to meet him. 6 he who is given his record in his right hand 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 He will cry out for destruction 11 And [enter to] burn in a Blaze. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah). 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 I swear by the glow of sunset, 16 The Night and its Homing; 17 And by the moon when she is at the full, 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 So announce to them a Penalty Grievous, 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
