Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
