Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
