A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 [It comes down sweet - but] were it Our will, We could make it burningly salty and bitter: why, then, do you not give thanks [unto Us]? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
