The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 arise and give warning! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
