Have you considered he who turns his back, 33 and gives so little [of himself for the good of his soul,] and so grudgingly? 34 Does he have knowledge of the hidden, so he can foresee? 35 Has he not been informed of what is in the Scrolls of Moses, 36 and Abraham, who paid his debt in full? 37 That no one who carries a burden bears another's load; 38 And that there is not for man except that [good] for which he strives 39 And that his effort will soon be scrutinised? 40 then, he shall be recompensed for it in full repayment 41 And that to your Lord is your returning; 42 that it is He who causes to laugh and causes to weep. 43 And that it is He Who gave death and gave life? 44 And that He created pairs, the male and the female 45 out of a [mere] drop of sperm as it is poured forth, 46 And that upon Him is another bringing forth. 47 It is He who grants people temporary and durable wealth. 48 And that He (Allah) is the Lord of Sirius (the star which the pagan Arabs used to worship); 49 And that He did destroy the Ad of old 50 and Thamud tribes, 51 and before them the people of Noah who were even more unjust and insolent; 52 It is He who turned upside down the people of Lot 53 and then covered them from sight forever. 54 About which of the bounties of your Lord can they persistently dispute? 55 This is a warner, of the warners of old. 56 The (Judgment) ever approaching draws nigh: 57 Of it, [from those] besides Allah, there is no remover. 58 Are you astonished at this news, 59 and do you laugh, and do you not weep, 60 Will you occupy yourselves simply in merriment? 61 Prostrate yourselves before God, and worship Him alone! ۩ 62
