The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 by the angels who gently release the souls of the believers, 2 and float [through space] with floating serene, 3 and those that outstrip suddenly 4 And those who arrange [each] matter, 5 On the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world], 6 and will be followed by the second one, 7 hearts will be throbbing, 8 [and] their eyes downcast... 9 [And yet,] some say: "What! Are we indeed to be restored to our former state 10 Even if we should be decayed bones? 11 They say: "It would, in that case, be a return with loss!" 12 Surely they will need no more than a single stern blast, 13 and they will be upon the surface of the earth (alive). 14 Has the story of Moses come to you 15 Lo! His Sustainer called out to him in the twice-hallowed valley: 16 (Saying:) Go thou unto Pharaoh - Lo! he hath rebelled - 17 And say to him, 'Would you [be willing to] purify yourself 18 that I might guide you to your Lord, so that you fear (Him)." 19 So he showed him the mighty sign. 20 but he belied and disobeyed, 21 He then turned away, striving in his effort. 22 Then gathered he and summoned 23 then said: 'I am your lord, the most high' 24 So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last [i.e. his saying: "I am your lord, most high") (see Verse 79:24)] and first [(i.e. his saying, "O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I" (see Verse 28:38)] transgression. 25 In this, behold, there is a lesson indeed for all who stand in awe [of God]. 26
