Thamud denied the warning 23 So they said: What! a single mortal from among us! Shall we follow him? Most surely we shall in that case be in sure error and distress: 24 Has the Reminder been cast upon him alone among us? Nay, rather he is an impudent liar.' 25 Ah! they will know on the morrow, which is the liar, the insolent one! 26 We are sending to them as a trial, a shecamel, so watch them and have patience. 27 And inform them that the water is to be shared between (her and) them. Each one's right to drink being established (by turns). 28 In response they called their companion he therefore caught and hamstrung the she-camel. 29 How terrible was My punishment and warning. 30 We loosed against them one Cry, and they were as the wattles of a pen-builder. 31 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 32 LOT'S PEOPLE [too] gave the lie to all [Our] warnings: 33 and behold, We let loose upon them a tempest which rained stones upon them, except upon Lot's household whom We rescued in the last hours of the night 34 a blessing from Us; even so We recompense him who is thankful. 35 And (Lut) did warn them of Our Punishment, but they disputed about the Warning. 36 They lusted after his guests, so We put out their eyes (and said): "Taste My punishment and My commination." 37 And early in the morning the decreed punishment came upon them. 38 "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings." 39 We have made it easy indeed to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 40
