Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
