The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 Every nation can only live for the time appointed for it. 5 (The unbelievers have said), "You to whom the Quran has been revealed are insane. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us, if thou art of the truthful? 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 We did send messengers before thee amongst the religious sects of old: 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 This is how We make the mocking* enter the hearts of the guilty. (* The acts of disbelief.) 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
