(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
