The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and waters gushing, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
