The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 And when the stars darken, 2 And when the mountains shall be made to pass away, 3 when the ten-months pregnant camels shall be abandoned, 4 the wild beasts are herded together, 5 and when the seas are set on fire, 6 And when the souls are paired 7 And when the girl buried alive shall be asked: 8 for what crime she had been slain, 9 When the ledgers are laid open, 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped, 11 When the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat; 12 And Paradise brought near, 13 A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it]. 14 Rather, I swear by the returning 15 the runners, the sinkers, 16 And the close of night, 17 and the morn as it breathes. 18 This is indeed the recitation of an honoured Noble Messenger. (Angel Jibreel – peace and blessings be upon him.) 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 Obeyed one; then trustworthy. 21 For, this fellow-man of yours is not a madman: 22 Surely he beheld Him on the clear horizon. 23 He is not chary of making public what is unknown. 24 And it (the Quran) is not the word of the outcast Shaitan (Satan). 25 where then are you going? 26 It is naught but a Reminder unto all beings, 27 So let those who want, choose the right guidance 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
