The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And shade extended 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
