The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 arise, and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 and purify your clothing, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he thought; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
