The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 The rebels' abode, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 Therefore taste it now We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. 30
