He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fearfully, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
