۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They asked: "Hast thou come unto us [with this claim] in all earnest - or art thou one of those jesters?" 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrahim (Abraham)." 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 They said: art thou the one who hath wrought this unto our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He answered, "Rather this biggest one of them did it. Ask them, if they can speak." 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 Abraham said: "Do you, then, worship beside Allah a thing that can neither benefit you nor hurt you? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 We said: "O fire, become coolness and safety for Abraham." 69 They had devised an evil plan (against Abraham), but We turned it into failure." 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 And (as for) Lut, We gave him wisdom and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town which wrought abominations; surely they were an evil people, transgressors; 74 And We brought him in unto Our mercy. Lo! he was of the righteous. 75
