The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 About the great event, 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Surely a time is fixed for the Day of Judgement. 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
