Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
