The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
