The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In gardens of delight; 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and spreading shade 30 and flowing water, 31 and fruits abounding 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
