The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 arise and give warning! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
