In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the winds (or angels or the Messengers of Allah) sent forth one after another. 1 And those raging swiftly; 2 and by the scatterers scattering (rain) 3 And by the Verses (of the Quran) that separate the right from the wrong. 4 And then by those that instil Remembrance into the hearts. 5 excusing or warning, 6 surely that which you are promised is about to fall! 7 So when the lights of the stars are put out. 8 When the heaven is cleft asunder; 9 The mountains reduced to dust and blown away, 10 And when the apostles are collected at the appointed time, 11 If one asks, "To which day have such calamitous events been postponed?" 12 For the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false]! 13 And what will make you comprehend what the day of decision is? 14 Ruin is for the deniers on that day! 15 Did We not destroy the ancients 16 and let the latter follow them? 17 So We serve the sinners. 18 Woe unto the repudiators on that day! 19 Did We not create you from contemptible water? 20 We then kept it in a safe place. 21 for an appointed time? 22 So We decreed. How excellent are We as decreers! 23 Woe unto the repudiators on that day! 24 Have We not made the earth a receptacle. 25 for both the living and the dead? 26 And We placed therein lofty, firmly set mountains and have given you to drink sweet water. 27 Woe on that Day to those who reject the truth! 28 GO ON towards that [resurrection] which you were wont to call a lie! 29 proceed towards the three-pronged shadow, 30 affording neither shade, nor protection from the flames, 31 "Indeed it throws about sparks (huge) as Forts, 32 and yellow camels. 33 Woe on that Day to those who reject the truth! 34 On that Day they will be speechless, 35 nor shall they be given permission, so that they can apologize. 36 Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)! 37 That will be the Day of Reckoning. Gathered will be (you) and the earlier (generations). 38 If you are cunning, then try your cunning against Me! 39 Alas the woe that day for those who deny! 40
