The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
