He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
