The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ The time of people's reckoning has drawn near, and yet they turn aside in heedlessness. 1 Never cometh there unto them a new reminder from their Lord but they listen to it while they play, 2 Their hearts are involved in play; and the unjust secretly conferred, “What is he, except another a human like you?! So do you follow magic although you have perceived?” 3 He said: My Lord knows what is spoken in the heaven and the earth, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 4 Nay! say they: Medleys of dreams; nay! he has forged it; nay! he is a poet; so let him bring to us a sign as the former (prophets) were sent (with). 5 Not a township believed of those which We destroyed before them (though We sent them portents): would they then believe? 6 And We did not send (Prophets) before you except men, to whom We sent divine revelations – therefore, O people, ask the people of knowledge if you do not know. 7 and neither did We endow them with bodies that could dispense with food nor were they immortal. 8 Then We fulfilled for them the promise, and We saved them and whom We willed and destroyed the transgressors. 9 Indeed, We have sent down for you (O mankind) a Book, (the Quran) in which there is Dhikrukum, (your Reminder or an honour for you i.e. honour for the one who follows the teaching of the Quran and acts on its orders). Will you not then understand? 10
