Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Mim. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 The command that We have been sending 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29

Notes and Instructions
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
