Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The sure calamity! 1 What is the Inevitable Hour? 2 And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality? 3 The tribes of Thamud and 'Aad belied the Striking Day. 4 the Thamud were destroyed by a terrible storm of thunder and lightning; 5 And as for A'ad, they were destroyed by a fierce roaring wind, 6 He made it rage against them seven nights and eight days in succession: so that thou couldst see the (whole) people lying prostrate in its (path), as they had been roots of hollow palm-trees tumbled down! 7 Then do you see of them any remains? 8 Then came the Pharaoh, and those before him whose habitations were overthrown while they were committing crimes. 9 They therefore disobeyed the Noble Messengers of their Lord so He seized them with an intense seizure. 10 Indeed when the water swelled up, We boarded you onto the ship. 11 that We might make it a reminder for you and for heeding ears to hold. 12 And when the trumpet is blown with a single blast, 13 and the earth and the mountains are carried aloft and are crushed to bits at one stroke, 14 Then on that Day shall happen the Event. 15 And the sky will be rent asunder, for it will that Day be flimsy, 16 And the angels will be on its sides; and on that day, eight angels will carry the Throne of your Lord above them. 17 On that day you shall be exposed, not one secret of yours concealed. 18 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, he shall say, 'Here, take and read my book! 19 Certainly I thought that I should encounter my reckoning.' 20 So he shall be in a life, well-pleasing. 21 In high empyrean 22 The Fruits whereof (will hang in bunches) low and near. 23 'Eat and drink with wholesome appetite for that you did long ago, in the days gone by.' 24 And as for him who is given his book in his left hand he shall say: O would that my book had never been given me: 25 And knew not what my reckoning! 26 Oh! Would that the death that came to me in the world had made an end of me! 27 My riches have availed me not; 28 "My power and arguments (to defend myself) have gone from me!" 29 (It will be said): 'Take him and bind him. 30 Roast him in Hell, 31 Then fasten him with a chain seventy cubits long: 32 He did not believe in God the supreme, 33 "And would not encourage the feeding of the indigent! 34 "So no friend hath he here this Day. 35 nor any food except foul pus 36 Which none but the hellish eat." 37
