And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They said, 'Nay, but we found our fathers so doing.' 74 He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 Thereupon they will be hurled into hell - they, as well as all [others] who had been lost in grievous error, 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
