Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Kaf. Ha'. Ya'. Ayn. Sad. 1 A mention of the Mercy of your Lord to his worshiper Zachariah, 2 When he called out to his Sustainer in the secrecy of his heart, 3 "Lord, my bones have weakened and my head has turned hoary with age, but never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you: 4 I fear evil from my kinsmen after I am gone; and my wife is barren, so grant me an heir out of Your special grace, 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." 7 He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age? 8 Answered [the angel]: "Thus it is; [but] thy Sustainer says, 'This is easy for Me - even as I have created thee aforetime out of nothing'". 9 He said, "My Lord, grant me a sign!" He said, "Your sign will be that you will not speak to anyone for three successive days and nights, although sound in body." 10 Then Zachariah came forth from the shrine to his people and told them by signs to glorify the Lord morning and evening. 11 We commanded John, Zachariah's son, to follow the guidance of the Lord with due steadfastness. We gave knowledge and wisdom to John during his childhood. 12 as well as, by Our grace, [the gift of] compassion and purity; and he was [always] conscious of Us 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant. 14 So peace on him the day he was born, the day he will die, and the day that he will be raised from the dead. 15
