The Pharaoh said to the chiefs around him: "He is certainly a clever magician. 34 "He wants to drive you out of your land by his sorcery, then what is it your counsel, and what do you command?" 35 They said, "Hold him and his brother off for a while 36 Who will bring you every learned, skilled magician." 37 So the sorcerers were got together for the appointment of a day well-known, 38 And it was said to the people, “Have you (also) gathered?” 39 Haply we may follow the magicians, if they are the vanquishers. 40 So when the magicians came, they said to Firaun, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 41 He replied, "Certainly, in that case you will join my inner circle." 42 Musa said to them: Cast what you are going to cast. 43 So they threw their ropes and their sticks, and said: "By the might of Fir'aun (Pharaoh), it is we who will certainly win!" 44 Then Moses threw his staff, and at once it devoured what they falsified. 45 And down fell the sorcerers, prostrating themselves in adoration, 46 [and] exclaimed: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 47 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 He (Pharaoh) said: 'You have believed him before I have given you permission. He is the chief of you who has taught you sorcery. But you shall know. I will surely cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and crucify you all.' 49 They answered: "No harm [canst thou do to us]: verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn! 50 "Only, our desire is that our Lord will forgive us our faults, that we may become foremost among the believers!" 51
