Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
