Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. 1 Commemorate the beneficence of your Lord on Zachariah, His devotee, 2 When he called to his Lord inwardly, 3 He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy. 4 "Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself,- 5 “He being my successor and the heir of the Descendants of Yaqub (Jacob); and my Lord, make him a cherished* one.” (* Make him a Prophet among the Descendants of Israel.) 6 'O Zachariah, We give you good tidings of a son, and he shall be called John (Yahya); a name We have never given before' 7 "My Lord!" [said Zachariah], "How shall I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached such extreme old age?" 8 (The angel) answered: "Thus will it be. Your Lord said: 'This is easy for Me; for when I brought you into being you were nothing.' 9 He said, 'Lord, appoint to me some sign.' Said He, 'Thy sign is that thou shall not speak to men, though being without fault, three nights.' 10 Then he came forth to his people from the sanctuary, and he beckoned unto them. hallow your Lord morning and evening. 11 O Yahya! take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him wisdom while yet a child 12 We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, 13 and full of piety towards his parents; and never was he haughty or rebellious. 14 Peace on him the day he was born, and the day he dieth and the day he shall be raised alive! 15
