The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And shade extended 30 And water gushing, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 We have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
