And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 He fled to the overloaded ship. 140 Then lots were drawn and he became of those who were pushed into the sea. 141 and the fish swallowed him while he was blaming himself. 142 Now had he not been of those that glorify God, 143 He would have tarried in its belly till the day when they are raised; 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore while he was sick, 145 and We caused a gourd tree to grow over him. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand, rather they exceeded. 147 They believed in him so We granted them enjoyment for an appointed time. 148 Now ask them if their Lord has daughters, and they sons? 149 Or that We created the angels female, and they are witnesses (thereto)? 150 Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say, 151 "Allah has begotten children"? but they are liars! 152 Hath He chosen daughters above sons? 153 “What is the matter with you? What sort of a judgement you impose!” 154 Will you not then remember? 155 Or, is there for you a clear warranty 156 Bring your Book, if you are truthful. 157 They assert kinship between Him and the angels. But the angels know that they (the liars) will be arraigned (in Hell). 158 God is too glorious to be described as they describe Him 159 but not so the true servants of God, 160 So you and your deities 161 shall not be able to tempt anyone away from Allah 162 Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire. 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks, 165 and we are of those who glorify Allah.” 166 What though they would say, 167 "If only we had had before us a Message from those of old, 168 we would have been sincere worshipers of Allah' 169 But (now) they disbelieve in it, so they will come to know. 170 for, long ago has Our word gone forth unto Our servants, the message-bearers, 171 Most surely they shall be the assisted ones 172 And that Our host, they verily would be the victors. 173 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from those [who deny the truth,] 174 and see them [for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 175 What! would they then hasten on Our chastisement? 176 But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned. 177 And turn away from them for some time. 178 And (then) see, for they too shall see. 179 LIMITLESS in His glory is thy Sustainer, the Lord of almightiness, [exalted] above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 180 And peace be upon all His message-bearers! 181 And praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. 182
